Sonic returns to the Nintendo DS™ with all the classic 2D, dual screen action the fans loved in Sonic Rush™, as well as a new high-seas adventure where he clashes with ruthless pirates. As Sonic, players will set off from Windmill Village to explore seven action-packed levels featuring the classic 2D gameplay that the Sonic series is known for. Now players will get to explore the action stages to uncover valuable items and materials which allow Tails to build new ships that help Sonic track down the villainous pirates. With a fleet of up to five ships, including a submarine, water bike, and hovercraft, players will use the touch screen technology in exciting new ways to control their ships as they race across the ocean gathering rings, busting tricks, and torching pirate ships in fierce ship-to-ship battles. At the end of each level, players will test their skills in epic 3D boss battles that span both screens, including the ultimate showdown with the evil pirate, Captain Whisker. Let the adventure begin!

5LOVED This Game :)  Aug 17, 2010
Although the villain is stupid, and resembles Eggman TOO much, this game is certainly a 5 star game to me.

Like most of the Sonic games these days, a new character was introduced to the heroes side. Her name is Marine, and she's a 7-year-old raccoon with an Australian accent (that you don't get to hear because the game is all text rather than talk), and she's from Blaze's dimension. in the game, Sonic and Tails are first seen in the Tornado 1, and they're caught in a storm. They fly into a tornado, and wake up on Southern island, where they realize that a girl they've never met had rescued them. For most of the game, they have yet to realize that they're in Blaze's dimension, and Marine is mostly a nuisance that doesn't understand what's going on.

My only complaints were that Sonic, Tails, and Blaze were MUCH too mean to Marine. Especially Blaze. Plus, it seemed that in the game, Blaze didn't really need to be there. Rather than a second Sonic Rush, this game could have done without Blaze. She was a random addition to the game, and looking for the Jeweled Scepter hardly had ANYTHING to do with the game. Otherwise, this game is definitely worth adding to your collection to play over and over again.

5Sonic has returned!  Jul 14, 2009
This game brings Sonic back in the way I remember. It's FUN. Sonic begins his adventure when an Australian-accent wielding girl raccoon (yes, I said WIELDING, because her accent is written out on the screen, and it's slightly annoying at times) finds him and Tails on the beach. After a little chat with the girl, The game play begins, and you are given smooth controls, awesome tricks, quick directional changes in movement for fast-paced action, and lots of hidden secrets. There are many unlockables, like new vehicles, secret levels, missions, and even stuff that's kind of cheesy like a statue of Sonic. There's so much in this game that I can't say all of it, but everything about it is fun! I highly recommend it to any fan of Sonic or of going FAST.

1Instant headache maker  Jul 11, 2009
I am a huge fan of the Sonic games in general, but this game was way to frenetic for me. The fact that the game goes between the two screens on the DS as you're moving through the levels makes it very difficult to figure out where you are at any given time. Since time is a factor in your score, trying to get through a level quickly is nearly impossible to make sure you're hitting the bonuses. I played the game for about 10 minutes before I got a splitting headache and gave up on it. Fortunately, I rented the game before I bought it, so only a few dollars wasted.

4Takes more time to beat than most Sonic games  Jun 26, 2009
Most of the Sonic games these days for the next-gen consoles take about a day to complete if you're trying. To get all the special features and collect all the emeralds and such, this one took me about a week. I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun it was, and also enjoyed the engrossing storyline.

The cast of characters is what has become the typical cheesy Sonic fare. The storyline is no different. As the reviewer before me, I sometimes long for the days of old where Sonic would just show up, run around bashing enemies, flip the sign, and move on.
