Prof. Layton and the Curious Village Jun 10, 2010 This game provided hours of fun for myself as well as my grandchildren....a great way to keep the mind active! A game for all ages!

Fun for a 10-year old girl! May 26, 2010 My husband and I purchased this game as a birthday gift for our oldest niece, who was turning 10 at the time. We don't have children ourselves, but we read through the reviews here, and we thought that this game would be appropriate for our niece, who is very bright, inquisitive, and disciplined (she earned her junior black belt in karate about a month later). Well, we obviously made a good choice, as her mother later reported back to us that our niece loved this game--she stated that it provided many hours of entertainment, although apparently, our niece eventually was able to proceed through all of the levels. So for reference, if you are buying this game for a smart, curious girl around the age of 10, she is bound to enjoy it!

Let's go to school. May 13, 2010 So, I thought the whole idea of this game was great, until I played it. It's not fun when you sit, staring blankly at your DS screen for over ten minutes thinking of the answer to a problem.
Not far into the game I spent over a half hour with a paper and pencil figuring out mathematics.
Just not fun.
I understand and see how a puzzle game can be fun, but I don't want to have to whip out a calculator, protractor, computer, paper, pencil, erasers, text books, etc.. just to play this game.

Layton rules, and Layton schools! May 07, 2010 If "Layton's apprentice saves the day!", Hint coins, and Picarats don't mean anything to you, then I suggest STRONGLY that you spend 15 bucks, for a lifetime of entertainment!
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is probably the best game for Nintedo DS I have ever encountered! I must give tribute to my grandmother who introduced me to the game, and I then introduced it to my family. Our family age ranges from 9 to 68 (counting grandma ;) and we all enjoy this game IMMENSLEY!!!! The game play is simple, the plot is easy to follow, it's the puzzles that kill you! Challenging and fun, puzzles are the main export of this awesome game, from slider puzzles (including the famed "worm in the apple", the answer of which still eludes my mother :), to difficult word problems, which usually have a trick in them somewhere...
I'd say "Professor Layton and the Curious Village" is entertaining for the whole family!
Now that we're done with that, let's get to the nitty gritty.
Pro's:
PROPROPROPROPRO (in short, there are no cons!)
Not-cons: PROPROPROPROFESSOR
Plot: (Don't worry, no spoilers!) Esteemed archeologist Professor Hershel Layton receives a request from Lady Dahlia Reinhold, whose late husband Baron Augustus Reinhold passed away two months ago, to settle an inheritance dispute over a treasure mentioned in his will. "The Golden Apple, to whomever locates this treasure, I offer the whole of my estate". The Professor and his young apprentice Luke decide to venture to the quaint little town of St. Mystere to solve the mystery of the Golden Apple.
Fun for all ages LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! Includes three mini-games, which upon completion unlocks more puzzles in the bonus section. Hand-drawn animation sequences (my favorite part!) that are woderfully fluid, are one of the many highlights of this game! Quirky characters you'll remember forever make this game even greater!
Thank you for listning to me ramble on.
I hope you enjoyed this review.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village Apr 19, 2010 Professor Layton truly caught me off guard. My bosses at GameStop recommended that I at least look into this game, because I will admit, I was mildly interested at best. The thought of a puzzle game really didn't appeal to me much at all. Much to my surprise this game is much more than just your average puzzle game.
Layton takes you through the eyes of himself and his sidekick apprentice Lucas, who are expert puzzle decrypters. While receiving an invite to the prestigious manner in a small village, a series of events start to occur, and it is up to you and Lucas to figure it out. All the while, the village happens to be very fond of puzzles, and will no sooner give you one before ever handing you any information pertaining to what they know.
These puzzles are not your run of the mill puzzles, as they require you to think outside of the box. Some of the answers will seem extremely obvious until you answer it and find that it's wrong. The game wagers picarats for each puzzle. You get the most for getting the answer right on your first try, but will slowly lose those as you answer incorrectly. You are allowed three hints per puzzle, assuming you have the coin to pay for them. The picarats are used as a measurement of your score at the end of the game.
There are a few side events that go on as well, but for the most part, the story is straight forward. Exploration is done using the lower half of the touch screen, and menu navigation is simple. If you like to use your head, and are up for a good challenge, this game is at least worth a play.
