5The Nerf Case for Nintendo DS - Great Case Option! Check it out!  Oct 29, 2008 By Mark "Technology, Music and Movies"

The Nerf Armor NDSL case lets you protect your Nintendo DS Lite at the right price. Over time I've bought a bunch of these to use for myself and to give as gifts. Hands down, it has become my favorite DSL case. It has many pros and only a few cons.

A case is really required equipment for any DS purchase, and this is one that should definitely be at the top of your list. The original solid color cases, such as the Nintendo DS Black Nerf Armor, are in short supply, but now these bi-color combinations are available.

The biggest issue with this case has little to do with quality. It is simply impossible to consistently find the color combination you want, which is a bigger deal when buying this for your children. Try to be as flexible with the color as you can.

Pros
+ Durable Nerf material provides a nice secure cushion to protect your NDS
+ A great worry free choice for kids
+ Great design leaves open access to your stylus, controls and game slots!!
+ Cool color options including black, blue, pink, white and grey
+ Affordable price point (although I imagine it might go on sale from time to time)
+ Light Nerf material feels good in your hand, a true play-thru case

Cons
- Adds a lot of size due to the thick padding
- Somewhat difficult to remove
- All available colors not listed here on Amazon, and are difficult to find

This case fulfills the two biggest requirements in a game case for your Nintendo DS Lite.

First of all, this Nerf material has some give to it. As such, this case is by far THE BEST when exposed to the drop test. Instead of cracking the case, the cushiony material will bounce slightly and in most cases keep your NDS intact.

Second, this case is well designed with open areas to access ALL those controls, game slots, and key features of your game player. That includes open spots for the headphone jack, volume control, and stylus! My first game case didn't have this feature, and it's taken me 3 cases to land on this one.

The main downside to this guy is the added thickness of the case. At this size, they could have added more extras. Additionally, some colors seem to not be sold on Amazon, namely the grey.

Still, this case does the job at a fair price. The Armor-Lite case by Joytech also has slots for your stuff, and is a lot less bulky. Nintendo DS Lite Armor Lite Case However, that case doesn't provide the same level of protection as the Nerf material does.

If you are like me and protecting your case is priority #1, get this case! If you need something more sleek and less bulky, the clear armor-lite should be on your list.

Enjoy!!!!

2It protects the DS alright, but it's a nightmare to remove  Dec 26, 2008 By soren121
I got this case for Christmas, and immediately opened it up and stuck my crimson and black DS Lite in it. It has the nice feel of cushy NERF foam, and its plastic silver insides protects the DS well. A little too well. When I tried to remove the case to play Guitar Hero: On Tour, it wouldn't come off. I searched the box for removal instructions; none in sight. I searched the Internet for help and struggled with the case for several hours before I got it off. When I did get it off, it left silver paint marks all over my DS. Thankfully, it comes off with a little water.

CASE REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS ---------------------------------

1. Pull the hinges out of their holes on each side of the DS and push the top half of the case upward and off the DS. You should have the top half off now.

2. Turn the DS to the side so the power button is facing away from you. Push up on the stylus hole and push the tab holding the DS off at the same time. A corner of the DS should come out.

3. Push off the rest of the tabs and the DS should come out.

4. Scrub off the paint marks on your DS if any with a damp rag.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, quick pros and cons:

==PROS==
+ Protects the DS from drops
+ Cushy NERF foam feels great
+ All ports and buttons remain accessible
+ Usual aggressively-lined NERF design

==CONS==
- A nightmare to remove
- Leaves paint marks on the DS
- Adds tons of bulk
- NERF is only glued onto the plastic inside

A great case for someone who tends to wreck their electronics easily, and wouldn't want to take it off. Otherwise, DO NOT BUY THIS CASE.

5Great protective case for your DS  Sep 02, 2008 By Brian A. Roush
We bought this case for our 5-year old son's new DS. I'm really pleased with it so far.

The fit of the case is very good. It has a hard plastic inner layer that fits directly against the DS. That inner layer is surrounded by a thick layer of the nerf foam. This seems like it will give really good drop protection. It closes nicely, and the cut-outs for the various buttons and slots are nicely sized.

The one drawback to virtually every case, and this one seems to be no exception, is around the hinge. There's virtually no padding on the hinge at all, and the plastic pieces to this case are also exposed. It would seem that a drop to this area will possibly end up breaking the case's or the DS's hinge. You'll find this problem on pretty much every case, though.

The extra thick padding on this case really is nice for peace of mind. It also is designed comfortably so that when playing the DS, it still feels good (or better, if you have adult sized hands). The cut outs are also angled, so that they get wider toward the outer edge of the case. This is a good thing - it guides your fingers toward the button, stylus, etc, and it also ensures there's no 90 degree corners to get snagged or picked off. The overall thickness of the foam does make the DS more bulky than a hard case or just a silicone sleeve, so you probably won't be putting it in your pocket any more, but the benefit is that this case seems like it will protect against falls better than the other types.

I do wonder about the long-term cleanliness of the case. It's Nerf foam, so it can get dirty or wear away. Nerf balls also tend to degrade in left in the heat or sun. Hopefully we'll be caring for the DS better than a Nerf ball, so it's not too much of a concern.

Once installed, it's very secure. My son tried to put it on himself, but actually put it in partially upside down, I had a really hard time getting it back out to put it on right. Once out, it installed very easily and hasn't come off since. I highly recommend this case.

3Could be better  Oct 20, 2008 By Murasaki
The case is strong so it really protects your ds but if you're like me and would like to have your hardware in perfect condition (and I mean, without a single scratch) don't buy it. After a couple of weeks of using the case, I decided to take it out to clean my ds and wasn't I surprise with the scratches I found on the top cover. The problem is that the case leaves a little bit of room between the ds and the protector so particles of dust get stuck between both and your ds gets scratched.

*Edited*
But if the scratches were the only problem...
Some people mumbled about the fact that I want to keep my ds intact while I am playing or traveling with it. Well, if you are happy with this case or you have a 7 year old who cannot hold the ds in hand, good for you, BUT there is a HUGE problem with this case.
I did use it for a while due to the lack of a better option, however, I finally found the perfect case for my ds in Japan. The problem is that the nerf is so heavy - it is really an ARMOR - that it almost broke the top cover of my ds, which now I have to hold it so it won't fall back. But don't think it is a '24hour' process, it takes a while, and little by little your nintendo will feel it.
Trust me, as I wrote in the previous review of the product and some people decided to bash it, I do take care of my things. And this case, will cost you more than you expect.

I am (or used to be until I left college >.<) a hardcore gamer. If you play for 2 hours every couple of days, I'm sure you won't have any problems. Now if you play for 7 or more hours, you WILL know what I mean because you will be holding your device for a long long time. Casual gamers, get this cover.
