5Awesome screen protector.. but 2 things to do differently  Apr 06, 2011 By Ricky A. Nobles Jr.
This screen protector is the easiest to apply. I only have 2 things to make aware of, but not enough to drop a star in the rating. Just an FYI.

First.. The cleaning cloth that comes with it. DO NOT USE. It says to wipe down the system with the cloth before applying the protectors. I did this.. looked clean to me. But in actuality the cloth leaves behind very tiny pices of lint (look at the cloth and you can figure out why). You dont see the lint until the screen protector is put on. I will have to buy another protector since when I play a game I can see all the lint. I told my friend who also got it not to use the cloth and use an eyeglass cloth to clean it and it was lint free.

Secondly.. it says in the instructions to pull off the yellow strips off the tabs before you line up the protector and then affix those tabs. Do yourself a favor and aline the protector BEFORE you remove the yellow strips or the tabs will stick to the system a little bit making it harder to align. They should had made it clear in the instructions to do this and not tell you to remove the yellow strips first.

Besides those two things.. it is very easy to apply and ive had no issues with it yet.

5Do buy.  Apr 01, 2011 By E. Marshall
I always buy Hori protectors for all my portable gaming systems. The new application method proves to be a bit easier than the usual way of installing screen filters. The top filter comes with two pieces of adhesive to align the filter during application. You still need to look to align it, as the adhesive tabs are primarily there to keep the filter stationary while removing the film and to prevent excessive dust from collecting to the filter by eliminating the time the underside is exposed during application. The bottom filter functions the same as the other Hori filters I have on my DS lite, DSi and DSi XL systems. I do not know what the other reviewers are referring to as functionality is not hindered in any manner. The top filter does leave a slight tint on the black border surrounding the screen when viewed in direct light, but I find it to be a small tradeoff in making sure the entire top screen is also protected. I do recommend cleaning the screens with the applied cloth and removing any trace of dust with canned air. Keeping a piece of scotch tape handy to remove any stray dust that makes its way under the screen during application is also recommended. Happy gaming!

5Wow, this new screen protector style is REVOLUTIONARY!  Apr 01, 2011 By Paul Boatwright
I'm the typical person that will take the longest time to put on screen protectors, because I absolutely DESPISE bubbles on my screen. It irritates me to no other. In fact, earlier I applied screen protectors on my PSP 3000 and absolutely dreaded the whole process.

This was not the case for my 3DS. You see, I was pretty worried since these screen protectors came in after I had used my 3DS for about a week, worrying that it will be a pain to put these on flawlessly. That was not so, with the new 3 step program, putting these screen protectors on is so idiot proof, I did not have any bubbles! No removing the screen protectors to clean it off, re-applying them. First time applied and they were FLAWLESS.

The HORI brand is a brand I have always trusted with my Nintendo Handhelds, and this just shows the amount of ingenuity the company has always offered. Fantastic product.

4Nice Design, Dumb User  Aug 13, 2011 By ahw
I mostly have no qualms with the product itself. I ran into some problems with it which I would attribute more to user error than product design.

Do yourself a favor and watch the video instructions embedded with the pictures of the product at the top of this page. Me, being the overconfident person that I am, assumed that I knew how to figure out how to apply the protectors, having done it a half dozen times with my older DS, my phone, camera, etc. Messing up the application process is SUPER FRUSTRATING, especially if you're perfectionist and OCD like me. If and when you mess up, you feel like you just flushed your money down the drain and want to scream. Such is my love-hate relationship with screen protectors. If you want to screen protector to be applied perfectly, you only have one shot!

The application system is pretty effective, though counter-intuitive (at least for me). Which explains why my bottom (second try) screen is pristine, and my top (first try) screen is all messed up.

What I didn't really get on my first try, is that the screen should be applied such that the instructions are facing YOU. This hopefully will make more sense when you have the product in your hands. How it works, is that there is an instruction panel that folds behind the screen protector itself, so that it sits between the protector and the screen. You then pull the instructions panel to the right, which peels off the backing to the protector, so that there is minimal dust exposure between the protector and the screen.

What this means is that you DON'T peel off the adhesive-side panel and then align the protector with the screen, as you would with other (cheaper) screen protectors. It also means that you have to make sure that both the screen and the application panel is dust-free when you perform the application.

I guess my confusion was that the screen protector is symmetrical, and it wasn't clear to me which side was the adhesive side and which side was the side that faces you (the top side).

Like I said before, it's hard to explain the processes without actually doing it or watching it, so watch the instruction video. Don't be like me and assume you know what you're doing >_<

5I'll never buy another brand of screen protector again  Apr 06, 2011 By krystalevenstar "Kes"
This was my first time trying out a HORI product and I am very impressed with the simplicity and ease of its application. If you properly clean your screens before placement, it's virtually impossible to get dust under the protector due to it's design of pulling the under-sheet off the protector after aligning it correctly. Honestly, I don't know why other companies don't use this method to apply their screen protectors, it works fantastically and it is actually quite fun to apply.

I've noticed that other reviewers have mentioned the slight purple tint on the black areas around the top screen. While this is true, the part of the protector covering the screen itself is not visibly purple and I believe that the tinting of the rest of the protector is to prevent glare when playing it in the sunlight. Personally I think that it's quite pretty, but I could understand how it would be off-putting to some consumers. I haven't been able to play the 3DS outside since receiving the protectors this evening, so I don't know if the anti-glare works well or not.

My biggest issue I suppose is that the touchscreen protector seems to make the stylus movement a little more rough than before it was applied. Due to some shipping issues, I got my 3DS at launch and just received my HORI protector today, so I was playing the 3DS for plenty of time before applying them. After playing with the touchscreen protector on, I could notice my movement with the stylus seemed a little more restricted. The best example I could give is before the screen protector it felt like moving the stylus across glass and after it feels a bit more 'rubberized'. The tactile response is noticeable but personally it isn't bad enough to merit not using the protector.

All in all I am absolutely in love with the screen protectors and look forward to purchasing more of your products in the future HORI. :)
