The game itself is great, it has a mysterious almost spooky atmosphere to it and the ending is truly not what you expect it to be. However, I feel that they could've spent some more time fine-tuning the controls. The magnifying glass was hard to handle and moving switches was also quite difficult on the DS's small screen. I'm also disappointed that this version is simply Myst Masterpiece Edition on the DS rather than realMyst (which is where the bonus age came from).
I would say not to get this except considering how the PC version is for a very old OS, and even the Masterpiece Edition and realMyst are for Windows 98, you might not have much of a choice. I would say pick this version if you have no other option available to you but definitely get the game.

Loved the Original, but screens are too small for the DS version. Sep 24, 2009
I actually remember playing the original Myst shortly after it came out for PC - Myst was one of the first Multimedia games with motion video. All the images are here just like the original, unfortunately they're too small to see. There is a feature to magnify, but when trying to see the star constellations for the Ship puzzle it still does not help. To be honest, I did not play the DS version in its entirety. In part, because I found the game was just too retro... I have seen the original images in all their 256-color glory, and they just don't carry over to the small screen. I am sorry Cyan, I love your work - if you ever get a chance to make a game for the GB DS where the graphics fit the screen(s), I am sure it will be a great game!

Its the same the computer version so its just as Challenging, BUT you have to set up the DS to 100 bright or the game will be to dark to see alot of the puzzles.

I have all the "Myst" pc games and decided it would be interesting to see how it was offered in DS....I was pretty amazed and happy to play the game. For those of us who are familiar with the game it is pretty easy to understand what is going on and how to play the game. For those who have never played MYST games, I would strongly suggest a "guide" book to assist you. For me, it's fun and entertaining....the graphics are very true to the pc game....good job ...if you are going to play the game set aside a few hours, it can get time comsuming.

I remember watching my male cousins play the original Myst on the PC and dreamed of playing it myself. When I saw this in the store, I snapped it up. What a mistake. A DS screen is naturally small, which I considered, and as such, needs well thought out graphics. The graphics in this game are grainy at best. This lack of clarity makes the puzzles extreamly hard. Many times I have missed important clues due to the fact that they are very small and not clear. This also makes for terrible navigation since you never really know which way you are going. I honestly cannot enjoy the puzzles in this game because I simply can't see.
In short, if you are a Myst collector, this would be a game for your collection. If you want to actually play this game, I would suggest another platform.
