May be a little too difficult Apr 30, 2009
By Cesar Alberto Hernandez Meraz
"César"
I really liked the first Nintendo DS High School Musical game. That one is a rhythm game based on the HSM songs, and that's it.
In this one, new mini-games have been introduced. There's a golf game where you must grab the golf balls and place them in a container, a "cooking" game where you must add ingredients (preferrably in order) to a sandwich, a basketball game where you must score points while also blocking attacks, and a pool-side game where you must make sure that people don't get sun-burned by keeping their parasols open.
They are a nice addition (or a good intention), except for the fact that (this being a rhythm game) you must have a perfect timing for all your actions, or you'll get a bad grade. It is somewhat frustrating to see how one error causes more and more, LOL.
It is not impossible to get better at those games with practice (and a lot of concentration). But keep in mind that if you get stressed by games that require this, those mini-games may not be good for you. As a good note, a perfect grade is not required to advance the game.
You will be able to play as Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Sharpay, Chad and Taylor. They can explore the resort and visit the kitchen, the pool or the dining room (among other locations). There are CDs "hidden" in the resort, and you can look for them all, which will get you a trophy once you find them. There are also trophies for other achievements, and there is a wall where you can see all the trophies you have won.
The main gameplay from the first game is back (it is the one I like the most). As other reviewers have already said, the songs used on the game are performed by other singers (and, in the case of Fabulous, have slightly different lyrics).
Even so, they are very fun to play. I would have bought (and recommended) this game even if all it included was this game mode.
I give it 3 stars because of the (possible) difficulty of the new mini-games and the change of performers in the songs.

High School Musical 2 Sep 25, 2008
By Lisa Gatts First of my 10 year old says its dumb, she likes the 1st one and GBA one.She hates this one .It may be a lil hard for her I dunno.
I like it although sometimes you must go do somethijng for someone and its hard to find out where so it seems like your running around in circles.
I think its a good game but not as good as 1 maybe just a lil longer,I hope when 3 comes out it will be better.

Annoyingly addictive and frustrating Sep 14, 2008

"I'm A Lonely Angel Stuck On The Slow Path"
I have to say as an early 20-something, I'm not in the target audience for High School Musical. Yet, I have both movies and the concert on DVD. And now I have tried my first game. Am I a convert? Not really.
I did play the game straight away, and although it took me a few tries to get my head around it, I did eventually. The controls aren't that obvious. Plus, it's not entirely obvious who you're playing as. You can either play as Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Sharpay, Chad or Taylor, but you don't really get to choose. The game flicks between characters too quickly. You get to do different tasks as different characters, but the tasks are very repetitive and frustrating. And as you go through the levels, the tasks get slightly harder each time. The making sandwiches task? Nearly impossible. This game is aimed at 3+, and I struggled with some of it.
It's near enough impossible to find the person you're looking for too. There's too many people wandering about and although you get told where to look for the person, it's never obvious.
My other quibble with the game is that for a High School Musical game, featuring the likenesses of the actors, and the songs - the songs are NOT as they are in the movie. It was a while before I realised (listening to "Fabulous" some of the brand names are replaced with something different), and it's probably cheaper singers singing the songs. So what happened? Could they not get the rights to have the same songs? It's a bit false in that sense.
Apart from that, it only took me a couple of days to complete and after that, there's nothing else to do. You can do the tasks again, but what's the point? The game is completed. It doesn't have the staying power like Theme Park for example - I've been playing that since May, and I may play other games in between, but I always go back to that. Buy it cheap, cos there is absolutely no staying power.
