4Very good game  Nov 26, 2007 By Relentless "skepticalbeliever"
In spite of the somewhat disappointment this game has been for the three major consoles, I believe they did very well in the DS version.

It's really fun to play, the graphics are surprisingly good (considering the processing power of the DS). Very easy and fast to get up and running. The teams and their players are pretty accurate. The physics are actually amazingly good and accurate (again, as said above, considering the processing power of a DS). Game play is very fluid and dynamic. The AI "hardness" levels have some gaps (i.e. in Amateur level it's ridiculously easy, but one notch up and it's almost impossible to beat), but less so than in past versions. Players' skill and endurance are also very well done. The only drawbacks: no ability to set a game's duration to more than 8-real-minutes per half and the WFC multi-player feature needs some work to make sure neither player leaves a match w/o giving up (forfeit) first. Other than that, I think it's a brilliant game; definitely worth the shillings.

3As good as soccer on the DS is as likely to get...  Jan 14, 2008 By S. Porter
Fifa 08 is by my reckoning the 3rd instalment on the DS and without doubt the best version so far. The question is with Pro Evolution 2008 on the horizon for DS, how long will it keep its crown?

The commentary is fun and usually relevant to the action on the pitch although understandably it starts to repeat after a while. The player models look ok; their faces look pretty accurate in the team selection screen although they look much less good in the matches. The replays on the top screen are fun as are the highlights packages at the end of each half.

The gameplay is fun for short bursts, everything works as it should and it won't be long before you're smashing in 30-yard screamers into the top corner. The problems come when defending where you are restricted to either pressing the "pressure" button which is almost useless, or going for a sliding tackle which often results in a foul and card. I have had a few bizarre and comedy goals which isn't quite realistic to real life, and the ball seems to hit the crossbar or post at least twice a game which is more than it should be.

The main attraction to most people is the real players and teams, which Pro Evo usually lacks. The problem with even licensed games comes when players transfer and this game doesn't have any player edit or transfer modes (that I can find, anyway!) so for example Tevez is not on Manchester United. This is I guess due to lack of memory on the cartridge, but it is an area where the DS can't hope to compete against it's PS2 & 3 big brothers.

The season mode is quite a good long term challenge which will take a long time to complete but other than that the number of modes is a little light, although obviously you can play online if you have the equipment (I sadly don't).

The touch screen is used to display formations and tactics, but trying to change them on the fly while playing can be a bit awkward! The stylus is also used more originally on set pieces, such as free kicks and penalties and although it is more of a gimmick than anything else, it helps make the game seem more fun.

Overall this is a good little game for DS and if you want football on the go, it's probably your best option for now, but don't expect it to compare to any of the console editions, especially the next-gen!

5Best Sports Game for the DS  Apr 03, 2008 By E. Crites
Darn it this is a fun game! This is not only the best soccer game on the ds, but the best sports game on the ds period. The graphics (if you care about that sort of thing) are about the best the ds has to offer, and the physics are very realistic. Everything- from your team to the chant your crowd cheers- is completely customizable. You get to draw your own team logo, create their uniforms, their motto, and of course team name. The most hilarious being recording your team chant into the microphone. There are an insane amount of licensed teams, and the players all look pretty similar to the ones in real life. The game supports online play and the touch screen controls (used only for free kicks, goal kicks and defending a goal kick) give the game a little extra something special. This is a must have for any footie fan.

5Son says: "It's the greatest DS game I own"  Mar 11, 2008 By Syrica
My 11 year old son loves this game for the multiple playing modes, good graphics and details. Another feature he enjoys is the instant replay function. My son is an active soccer player himself and very versed with international teams. He enjoys that he can call up any international major or minor soccer league. My 11-year old says: "I recommend you buy it".
